Investment Benefits of Alpacas
Alpaca owners are as varied as the animals themselves,
from single people to married couples, from young
families to retired persons. For all owners, alpacas
offer a great way to diversify their financial
portfolio with a commodity that is still considered
rare and in demand worldwide. Demand for alpacas
has increased dramatically every year since we
purchased our six alpacas in 1985. Prices have
been, and continue to remain solid.
-
The U.S. Alpaca Market is protected by the
Alpaca Registry, Inc. (ARI), a database with
pedigree, parentage, and DNA information.
In 1998, the members of ARI voted to close
the registry from further importation. This
means newly imported animals can no longer
be used for registered breeding stock. Only
offspring of current registered alpacas can
be registered with ARI.
-
Awareness of the unique quality of alpaca
fiber is increasing with worldwide recognition.
-
Raising alpacas on your own ranch can offer
a multitude of tax advantages. Even the less
active owner using agistment (boarding) services
can enjoy tax advantages. Alpacas are depreciable.
Unlike many investments, alpacas are eligible
for livestock insurance.
-
While you are building your herd and enjoying
these lovable animals, your investment continues
to grow in size and multiply in numbers. What
other investment stock can you hug? Alpacas
are tagged as the "World's Finest Livestock
Investment".
